Locked Out carries out seven auto locksmith services at the vehicle, from replacing a lost key when none are left to opening a car with the keys locked inside.
Prices start from £80 for a spare key or a lockout, from £120 for a new ignition barrel and from £135 for a lost key, with no VAT added to any job.
SERMI approved auto locksmithAn auto locksmith works on vehicle keys, locks and ignitions, which is a different trade from the locksmith who works on house doors. The work splits into three jobs that cover almost every call.
The first is making keys, whether that is a spare copied from a working key or a completely new key when every key is lost. The second is entry, which means opening a vehicle without damaging the door, the lock or the glass. The third is repair, which covers snapped keys taken out of locks and ignitions and worn ignition barrels replaced and coded to the keys you already carry.
Every price below is a starting price. The figure moves with the make, the model, the year, the type of key the vehicle uses and whether a working key is left.
| Service | Starting price | What sets the final figure |
|---|---|---|
| Lost car key replacement | From £135 | The key type, the make and whether the vehicle needs bench programming |
| Spare car keys | From £80 | The key type, and whether the remote and the blade are one unit |
| Locked out of car | From £80 | The lock type and where the vehicle is parked |
| Car key programming | Priced by key type | Transponder, remote or keyless smart key, and the make |
| Car key cutting | Priced by key type | Standard blade, laser cut blade or cutting from the key code |
| Broken car key extraction | Quoted per job | Where the key snapped, and whether a new key is needed afterwards |
| New ignition barrel | From £120 | The make, and whether the new barrel is coded to the existing keys |
| Stolen car key replacement | From £135 | The key type, and the number of old keys that have to be deleted from the vehicle |
| Van and fleet keys | From £135 | The van make, the key system and whether the load area uses a separate key |
No VAT is added to any of these prices, because Locked Out is not VAT registered. A main dealer quote for the same replacement key commonly runs from about £250 to more than £400 with VAT included, and usually needs the vehicle at the dealership.
Three questions put almost every call into the right job before the van sets off.
A working key means a spare key job starting from £80. No working key at all means a lost key job starting from £135, because the vehicle has to be opened and the new key written in from nothing.
Keys locked inside the vehicle means entry work starting from £80. A key snapped in a door lock or an ignition means extraction, which is quoted once Paul sees where the blade sat.
A key that no longer turns, or turns and sticks, usually points at a worn ignition barrel rather than the key, which is a new barrel starting from £120 coded to your keys.
All car makes are covered, along with vans, motorbikes and fleet vehicles. The make and the model year decide which programmer comes out of the van rather than whether the job can be done at all.
Newer vehicles are where SERMI approval matters, because the security data sits behind a manufacturer gateway. Locked Out is SERMI approved, so those vehicles are coded through the manufacturer route instead of being turned away.
The same things are true of every service on this page, whichever one you need.
The work is carried out by Paul Wright, who has run Locked Out since 2019 and worked as a mechanic before that. The about Locked Out page sets out the credentials, the cover and the equipment in the van.
Each service has its own page with the process, the price factors, the makes it applies to and the questions drivers ask.

Locked Out charges starting from £80 for a spare key or a lockout, from £120 for a new ignition barrel and from £135 for a lost key, with no VAT added. The exact figure depends on the make, the model, the year and the key type.
Yes, every service on this page is carried out at the vehicle. The key cutting machine, the key blanks and the programmers travel in the van, so a recovery truck is not needed.
Most jobs are finished in one visit. The time on site depends on the make and the key type, and the vehicle is tested before Paul leaves rather than being handed back untested.
Yes, vans, motorbikes and fleet vehicles are covered in the same way as cars, and the price is set by the key the vehicle needs rather than by the size of the vehicle.
That is usually a key programming or transponder fault rather than a lock fault. Start with the key battery, and if nothing changes the vehicle needs reading to see whether the key is still recognised.
No, VAT is not added to any Locked Out price, because the business is not VAT registered. A main dealer quote includes VAT at 20 percent.
No, Locked Out works on vehicles only. Car, van, motorbike and fleet keys, locks and ignitions are the whole of the work.
Paul says so on the phone before setting off whenever a vehicle or a key type is outside what the van can cover, rather than travelling out and charging for a job that cannot be finished.
